Ofwat Summer Learning festival - a week-long, immersive online learning festival

Ofwat, the economic regulator for the water and waste-water sector in England and Wales, take their 250-strong team off-site for strategic learning activities twice a year.

With the rise of Covid, this wasn’t possible but the need to bring their people together was even more important. In a bold step, Ofwat had a vision of a week-long, online learning festival, complete with brochure, branding, teaser campaign and booking system, for all Ofwat people to attend.

Comprising of external and internal speakers, workshops, health, well-being and social activities, and opening and closing ceremonies, a total of 20 events took place across the course of the week. Of paramount importance was ensuring alignment to the Ofwat Strategy and engagement across the whole organisation, leaving no-one behind.

Every session needed to be participative, interactive and engaging, and to bring about new thinking and action for every participant.

We worked closely with the Ofwat project team over a 2 month period to help bring their vision to life, providing design input, coaching for internal and external speakers, facilitation and hosting for all sessions, written articles and teaser campaign materials and a full measurement piece to evaluate post-festival. The festival was a resounding success, with the average score of the overall experience rated as above 8/10 from Ofwat.

#Poetry for NHS: A celebration of "these are the hands" anthology

Working alongside a team of wonderful and dedicated volunteers in celebrating the publication of “These Are The Hands”, an anthology of poetry written by NHS key workers, there was a clear need to find a way to allow the words of these poets to be shared with the world in the absence of a ‘live’ reading event - and create and bring together an online community of poets, from those who love the NHS, and those who work in the NHS. This was a volunteer led event.

We were approached in the first instance to help by providing coaching to the poets, many of whom had never delivered their poetry to a live audience before. As the project grew, the design morphed into a live online event, attended by hundreds of members of the public with beautiful readings from over 40 NHS Key Workers from not only the UK, but as far afield as New Zealand.

Working with the publishers, the poets and a core organising team, we provided coaching for all poets, technical support to run the event, rehearsals for all poets and hosting and facilitation of the live event on the night.

The event was a wonderful success, with over 500 sign ups and the launch of the #PoetryforNHS initiative, a crowd sourcing of poetry from members of the public about the NHS in response, run by Louise Winters.
